The minister laid a wreath at the Maharaja Grounds, where the singer's mortal remains were kept for public homage, according to an official statement.

Describing Janaki as a "rare talent" who connected generations through her music, John said her contributions transcended linguistic barriers and would be remembered forever, the statement added.

Janaki died at a private hospital in Mysuru on Saturday due to age-related ailments. She was 88.

According to family sources, she developed breathing difficulties on Friday night and was admitted to the hospital, where she passed away.
