Kerala govt yet to discuss Aranmula airport project: Minister

Kerala Higher Education Minister Roji M John on Saturday said there had been no discussion in the government regarding the Aranmula airport project.

Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala Higher Education Minister Roji M John on Saturday said there had been no discussion in the government regarding the Aranmula airport project.

John was responding to reporters' queries about a drone survey that the landowner reportedly conducted recently at the proposed project site.

"This issue has not come up for discussion in the government since it came to power. The government has not taken any steps or held any discussions regarding it. Only if it officially comes up before the government can we comment on it," he said.

The minister said no one had approached the government with any such proposal or plan.

The CPI(M) local leadership in Pathanamthitta, where the greenfield airport was proposed to come up, and the BJP have expressed opposition to the project.

The Aranmula greenfield airport project was shelved in 2016 by the Kerala government after the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal cancelled the environmental clearances granted to it.
