Kerala: Fishing boat catches fire; workers escape unhurt

A fishing boat docked at a yard caught fire here on Monday, officials

Kollam (Kerala) | A fishing boat docked at a yard caught fire here on Monday, officials said.

According to Fire and Rescue Services personnel, the incident occurred at a yard where a fishing boat was being dismantled.

At around noon, the boat suddenly caught fire while five workers were engaged in the dismantling work.

On noticing the fire, all five workers jumped into the water and escaped unhurt.

Fire and Rescue Services teams rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.

Officials suspect that the fire may have been triggered by sparks from welding and cutting machines used during the dismantling work.

They said nearly half of the boat was gutted in the fire, though it was not operational.
