Kottayam (Kerala) | Congress leader Chandy Oommen on Monday raised concerns over EVMs from two Assembly constituencies being stored in a single hall here.

Speaking to reporters, Chandy said that a complaint had been submitted by his election agent to the Election Commission in this regard.

"The counting of EVMs will be held in one hall. I do not believe there is any need to keep EVMs of both constituencies in the same hall. There is another hall and EVMs of one constituency could have been kept there," he said.

Chandy said that the EVMs of the Puthuppally constituency, from where he contested, were being stored along with those of the Changanassery constituency.

He said that even with air-conditioners installed, there were concerns about the condition of the EVMs given the intense summer heat across Kerala.

"I will comment about it after May 4 when the election result is announced," he said, indicating that he would elaborate further after the results.

He refused to comment on the debate over the Congress chief ministerial candidate, stating that such discussions had been put to rest by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.

He said that there was nothing wrong with Congress workers highlighting certain leaders.

"There is nothing wrong with it. We have several leaders in our party," he said.

Chandy said that there was no doubt that the LDF would lose and the UDF would secure victory, claiming that a favourable political climate in the state had been reflected in bypolls, Lok Sabha, and local body elections.
