Kerala Assembly: IUML MLA raises concern over AI-generated images used for online harassment

Thiruvananthapuram | IUML MLA Fathima Tehlia on Wednesday raised the issue of alleged cyber harassment in the Kerala Assembly, claiming she was being targeted through AI-generated images and abusive content on social media.

Participating in the discussion on the Finance Bill, the Perambra legislator said the rapid growth of social media had created a situation in which anonymous users could "freely abuse and malign others online"

Observing that artificial intelligence had made it easier to create and circulate manipulated images and posts, Tehlia stressed the need to ensure a safe environment for women to participate in public discourse, both offline and on social media.

Following her submission, Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan directed that copies of the alleged abusive social media posts she displayed in the Assembly be placed on the Table of the House.

He assured her that the Assembly secretariat would forward the material to the cyber police for appropriate action.
