Kochi (Kerala) | A 13-year-old girl was found hanging at her home in Chalakka near here after her parents allegedly stopped her from using a mobile phone, police said on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Parvathy, daughter of Vijesh.

She was found hanging in her bedroom on Thursday night.

Family members rushed her to a nearby medical college, where she later died, police said.

According to Chengamanad police, which has registered a case of unnatural death, Parvathy had been stopped by her parents from using a mobile phone.

The family used the phone for household purposes. When a family member tried to call the number, it was found to be engaged for a long time, police said.

Following this, her parents stopped Parvathy from using the phone, after which she went to her bedroom.

When her parents later went to the room, they found her hanging, police said.

Police said they were also investigating whether any other factors may have led to her death.

The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination, officials said.
