Thiruvananthapuram | State-run Keltron has developed and brought to market advanced technological equipment for the defence sector as part of the Kerala government's 100-day action plan.

The project is being implemented with the full support of the Industries Department and focuses on technologies for the defence sector, an official release said here on Friday.

The Defence Ministry's Quality Assurance Organisation has granted Keltron "self-certification authority" for manufacturing three types of equipment - -electromagnetic logs, echo sounders and underwater communication systems, it said.

An electromagnetic log is used to accurately measure a ship's speed, while an echo sounder helps determine the depth of water below a vessel.

The underwater communication system enables communication between ships and submarines.

The certificate was handed over by Additional Director General Rear Admiral Ajith Thekkeppattu to Keltron Managing Director Sreekumar Nair in the presence of Industries, Information Technology and AI Minister P K Kunhalikutty, it said.

The EM log specially designed for the Indian Navy and the echo sounder developed for the Coast Guard were also handed over to Rear Admiral Ajith.

Keltron has also received another order from the Indian Navy for a submarine echo sounder, it said.

Industries Department Additional Chief Secretary A P M Mohammed Haneesh, BPT Executive Chairman Ajith Kumar K, BPT Member Secretary Biju Mohan R, Captain Jaswinder Singh and Head Captain Krishnakumar, among others, attended the event.

The development of the equipment is part of the state's efforts to strengthen its public sector manufacturing capabilities and expand into defence-related technologies.
