IUML MLA Najeeb Kanthapuram booked for obstructing court-appointed commissioner

Police have registered a case against IUML MLA Najeeb Kanthapuram for allegedly obstructing a court-appointed advocate commissioner from taking possession of mortgaged property

Malappuram (Keralam) | Police have registered a case against IUML MLA Najeeb Kanthapuram for allegedly obstructing a court-appointed advocate commissioner from taking possession of mortgaged property at Vengoor here, officials said on Thursday.

Based on the direction of the Manjeri First Class Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Melattoor police registered the case against Perinthalmanna MLA Kanthapuram, ward member Musamil Khan and four unidentified persons on October 12, police said.

The case pertains to a court order appointing an advocate commissioner to take possession of a mortgaged property belonging to a private individual at Vadakkekara Colony in Vengoor.

On September 25, when the advocate commissioner reached the spot to take possession of the property, Kanthapuram and others allegedly obstructed him from executing the court order.

According to the FIR, Kanthapuram also threatened the advocate commissioner, saying he would not return alive if he set foot in the property's courtyard, thereby causing the complainant to fear for his life.

Following the incident, the complainant approached the court, which directed the police to register a case.

Recently, Kanthapuram also filed a petition seeking an apology for his actions, which is expected to be considered soon.

Kanthapuram maintains that he acted after the house where three women lived was evicted as part of the procedure, and that he asked the advocate commissioner to give more time to settle the issue.
