Alappuzha (Keralam) | Police have registered a case against CA Biju, national secretary of the INCAS, a cultural organisation associated with the KPCC, following a complaint of sexual assault, officials said on Friday.

According to police, the case was registered at Kayamkulam police station on August 2 after the complainant, a woman from Thiruvananthapuram, approached the State Police Chief, who forwarded the complaint to the Alappuzha district police.

Following the direction of the Alappuzha District Police Chief, police recorded the complainant's statement and registered the case at Kayamkulam station, officials said.

The allegation is that Indian Cultural and Arts Society (INCAS) national secretary Biju sexually assaulted the complainant multiple times after promising to marry her both in a Gulf country and in Kayamkulam, police said.

As Biju allegedly refused to marry her later, she approached the police, officials said.

On Friday, the complainant told the media that Biju was close to several Congress leaders and alleged that police, under pressure, had not properly recorded her statement.

She also alleged that attempts were being made to derail the investigation.

Police denied the allegations, saying the facts narrated by the complainant had been recorded and shown to her before the case was registered.

Meanwhile, Kayamkulam police registered a separate case against Sunil Aseez, another office-bearer of INCAS, on the allegation that he threatened the complainant and asked her to withdraw the complaint.

Aseez is also a relative of Biju, police said.

Biju and Aseez are yet to respond to the allegations.
