Thiruvananthapuram | KPCC chief Sunny Joseph on Tuesday said that if Congress MLA Ramya Haridas has given a letter to appoint a suspended party worker as her personal staff, it was "not right".

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief was responding to reporters' pointing out that Haridas has given a letter to make Palayam Pradeep, who was recently suspended from the party's primary membership following a clash involving her and party members in Chirayinkeezhu, her personal staff.

She had reportedly given a letter to the state assembly to make Pradeep her personal staff with retrospective effect from May this year.

Joseph, also the state Electricity Minister, said that it has to be seen when she had given the letter.

"If she gave the letter now, it was not right. It was not appropriate," he said.

KPCC had on Sunday suspended Pradeep and S Sajad from the Congress' primary membership in connection with the clash for "serious organisational indiscipline" that brought disrepute to the party in public.

Haridas on Monday had said that such issues could occur "in any family or party organisation" and can be resolved through dialogue.

The incident, in which Haridas allegedly sustained injuries, has led to conflicting accounts of what happened.

Haridas alleged that she was attacked and threatened by local Congress leaders, while district panchayat member Sajith Muttambalam and Sajad said the MLA and Pradeep confronted them over a WhatsApp post, leading to a scuffle.

Haridas, a prominent Dalit face of the Congress in Kerala, sought treatment at the Chirayinkeezhu taluk hospital after the incident on last Friday night.
