Thiruvananthapuram | KSEB chairman M G Rajamanickam on Friday said that Kerala has requested the Union government to extend till June 2027 the allocation of an additional 262 MW from the central electricity pool to the state which is reeling under a severe power crisis.

The chairman of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) said that the state had received the additional allocation till June and had sought its extension by another three months, which was granted last week.

"Now we have requested the central government to extend it till next June. They are considering it positively," he told reporters.

He also said that the state has got a coal-linkage allocation of 500 mega watt (MW), but its time period is about to get over. So, the government has urged the Centre to extend it by another year, the KSEB chairman said.

Kerala has been reeling under a severe electricity crisis with frequent power cuts in several parts of the state due to lack of adequate rains and very less water storage in the hydel power dams, leading to shortages in electricity generation.
