Thiruvananthapuram | A 75-year-old woman died of a suspected snakebite at Pulimath here on Monday, marking the second such fatality in Kerala in two days, police said.
On Sunday, an eight-year-old boy died following a snakebite at his residence in Kodaly in Thrissur district.
According to police, the deceased, Sudharmma of Pedikulam, Pulimath, was bitten by a snake while she was near the well of her house at around 6.15 am.
Noticing the bite mark, she was rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.
However, she died at around 7.15 am.
Police said doctors who attended to Sudharmma suspected a snakebite death, but it would be confirmed only after the postmortem examination.
The snake species involved has yet to be identified.
Kilimanoor police have registered a case of unnatural death and begun an investigation.
Meanwhile, the body of eight-year-old Aljo, who died following a snakebite at Kodaly in Thrissur, was brought to his house.
According to reports, a venomous juvenile common krait was found in the house again on Monday.
Aljo's funeral was held at a church near his residence.
His brother Anosh, who was also bitten by the snake while sleeping in the house, remains hospitalised.
Family members said his condition is improving, but he continues to be in the ICU.
