Elderly man sets car on fire at doctor's house in Kerala, suffers burns

Kottayam (Kerala) | An elderly man allegedly set a car on fire at a doctor's house in Gandhi Nagar here on Monday, officials said.

According to officials at the Kottayam Fire Station, they received information around 8.10 am that a car parked at a doctor's residence had caught fire.

A fire tender was immediately dispatched, and it was found that the fire had been set by a former employee at the house.

Officials said that Chelappan (85) arrived at the house with petrol and set the car parked in the shed on fire.

Chelappan also sustained burn injuries and was shifted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital, officials said.

The fire was doused after 45 minutes.

Gandhi Nagar police have launched an investigation to ascertain the reason behind the act.

Police said they are awaiting a complaint from the doctor to register a case.
