Court rejects plea to shift Mini Cooper crash accused to central prison

A court here dismissed a petition by superintendent of the Borstal School seeking to shift the prime accused in the Mini Cooper crash that killed three youngsters in Nedumbassery here, to a central prison

Kochi | A court here on Thursday dismissed a petition by the superintendent of the Borstal School seeking to shift the prime accused in the Mini Cooper crash that killed three youngsters in Nedumbassery here, to a central prison.

Angamaly Judicial First Class Magistrate Samyuktha M K dismissed the petition filed by the superintendent of the Borstal School in Kakkanad, which houses prisoners aged between 18 and 21, seeking Suhail's transfer to a central prison on security grounds.

The petition cited security concerns over his continued stay at the facility.

However, the magistrate dismissed it after examining the plea.

Suhail's admission to the Borstal School had earlier drawn criticism.

Suhail, 19, was allegedly driving the car when it rammed into a scooter carrying three youngsters on the airport road at Nedumbassery in the early hours of October 11.

Three others who were travelling in the car were also arrested after police found that the occupants were heavily drunk and the vehicle was allegedly travelling at over 100 kmph.

Meanwhile, a five-member investigation team visited the house of Devika, a native of Kalpetta in Wayanad and one of the three victims, on Thursday morning.

The team recorded statements and interacted with her family for over an hour, officials said.

After the accident, the family members told reporters that they are hopeful that justice would be delivered and that investigators have collected all crucial evidence in the case.

Recently, the magistrate court had dismissed the bail petitions of the accused persons.

They have filed fresh petitions at the Ernakulam District Principal Sessions Court.
