Palakkad (Keralam) | Congress MLA Ramya Haridas on Monday said the clash involving her and party members in Chirayinkeezhu in Thiruvananthapuram district could be resolved through dialogue, dismissing reports of a serious dispute within the party.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a wedding function here, Haridas said what happened in Chirayinkeezhu was something that could occur "in any family or party organisation".
"The party has said that it is something which can be resolved through dialogue," she said, adding that she would visit Chirayinkeezhu in the coming days.
Her remarks came a day after the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee suspended two Congress workers over the clash involving Haridas and party members in Chirayinkeezhu.
On being asked whether she had lied about going to Delhi, Haridas said she had booked tickets but could not travel due to health issues.
"You can check in the state Assembly. I had given my travel details there," she said.
Congress leader M M Hassan, who is part of the party panel looking into the incident, had reportedly said that Haridas could not appear before the committee as she had to travel to Delhi.
However, Haridas was reportedly present in Palakkad during the same period.
The KPCC action against the two workers followed a preliminary report submitted by Hassan, who was appointed by the Congress leadership to inquire into the incident.
Congress workers Palayam Pradeep and S Sajad were suspended from the party's primary membership for "serious organisational indiscipline" that brought disrepute to the party in public.
Pradeep was a member of Haridas' personal staff, while Sajad is a Congress leader at whose house Haridas alleged she was attacked by party workers.
On Monday, Pradeep told reporters that he was part of the MLA's personal staff and denied allegations that he had threatened anyone.
The incident, in which Haridas allegedly sustained injuries, has led to conflicting accounts of what happened.
Haridas alleged that she was attacked and threatened by local Congress leaders, while district panchayat member Sajith Muttambalam and Sajad said the MLA and Pradeep confronted them over a WhatsApp post, leading to a scuffle.
Haridas, a prominent Dalit face of the Congress in Kerala, sought treatment at the Chirayinkeezhu taluk hospital after the incident on Friday night.
