Case registered over ''derogatory YouTube video'' targeting Kerala minister Kunhalikutty

Police have registered a case after derogatory remarks were allegedly made against Kerala Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty in a video uploaded on a YouTube channel

Malappuram (Kerala) | Police have registered a case after derogatory remarks were allegedly made against Kerala Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty in a video uploaded on a YouTube channel, officials said on Thursday.

Malappuram Cyber Police registered a case on its own against unidentified persons over a video uploaded on a YouTube channel named "Brahma Cognition".

According to police, the video contained derogatory remarks against the minister and featured visuals of Kunhalikutty lighting a ceremonial lamp at an event in Thiruvananthapuram.

Police alleged that, apart from using abusive language, the video also referred to terms such as "halal" and "haram" in connection with the minister in a manner that could affect religious harmony.

Although Youth League leaders had approached the police with a complaint, the FIR was registered after the Kerala Police Cyberdome flagged the video and its contents, officials said.

Police said the persons operating the YouTube channel have been identified and summoned for questioning.

The case has been registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, officials added.
