Case against Youth Cong activist over offering money for poll prediction

A case has been registered against a Youth Congress activist for allegedly offering money for accurate predictions of the margin with which UDF candidate from Kayamkulam assembly seat will win in the April 9 polls, police said on Sunday.

An officer of Kayamkulam police station said that a case was lodged on Saturday on a complaint received from Election Commission officials regarding a Facebook post by the Youth Congress activist.

The accused had on Facebook allegedly offered Rs 10,001 cash prize for the most accurate prediction of the margin with which UDF candidate M Liju would win from the constituency, police said.

An FIR under section 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against the accused, police said.

According to the FIR, the accused's Facebook post was made deliberately to provoke people with the political motive to cause riots.
