Car plunges into canal in Kerala's Idukki, one killed

One person was killed and three others injured after a car plunged into a canal at Elappara in this high-range district on Thursday morning.

According to police, the deceased and the injured are from Thiruvananthapuram, and their identities are being verified.

The accident occurred around 6 a.m. when the car, carrying five people, including a child, was on its way to Kattappana. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and plunge into a canal near Elappara.

Locals rushed to the spot and rescued all five occupants from the vehicle before they were shifted to a hospital in Peerumade.

One of the occupants later succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment, police said.

Three others sustained injuries, while the child escaped unhurt.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
