Kochi | Congress leader Mathew Kuzhalnadan on Friday labelled BJP leaders P C George and his son Shone as "trojan horses" of the saffron party, following the duo's criticism of the Catholic church a day after the polls.
Kuzhalnadan also said the comments by the father-son duo would have also served to make many members of the church, who were leaning towards the BJP, to rethink their stand.
His remarks, while speaking to reporters here, came in the wake of P C George and his son criticising some Catholic bishops for allegedly supporting the UDF.
George also said that the amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, which have been withdrawn temporarily, will be passed in the Lok Sabha.
Kuzhalnadan said that the language used by George and his son was not unknown to the Congress, "but it is not our style".
"There may be differences of opinion with the church, but this is not the kind of language to be used to express that. Especially in view of the contributions made by the church to the society at large.
"So, such trojan horses have to be identified and defeated, else Kerala will have to pay a big price. P C George, his son Shone, AP Abdullakutty and Sabu Jacob are trojan horses of the BJP and RSS. They are ready to defame, demean or criticise anyone for their own benefit," the Kuzhalnadan, who contested from Perumbavoor Assembly seat, said.
He said that while he was not going to use the same language as George, he would like to tell the BJP leader that "his threats do not scare anyone".
"The church is not just confined to the Bishops. It includes the whole community of believers and they vote according to what they think is right and not what anyone else tells them," he added.
The Congress leader termed the statements by George and his son "unfortunate and unacceptable".
