BJP alleges IUML influence after Satheesan named Kerala CM, shares memes

After V D Satheesan was named as the CM of Kerala by the AICC, the BJP in Kerala alleged that the state would be effectively governed by the IUML for the next five years

Thiruvananthapuram | After V D Satheesan was named as the Chief Minister of Kerala by the AICC on Thursday, the BJP in Kerala alleged that the state would be effectively governed by the IUML for the next five years.

The BJP shared multiple memes through its official social media pages targeting the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leadership.

In one such meme shared on the BJP Kerala Facebook page, IUML state president Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal was depicted at the centre, with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge shown bowing before him, while Satheesan was portrayed as fanning him.

In a Facebook post, the BJP claimed that, despite not having majority support among Congress MLAs, Satheesan was chosen under pressure from the IUML.

The post further alleged that the IUML was seeking to push its demands, including that of a "new religious district", and required a leadership that would comply with its interests.

It referred to the division of Malappuram district proposed by some local IUML leaders.

"The real decision-making centre of the Congress was not in New Delhi but at Panakkad House," the post said, referring to the Thangal family associated with the IUML.

In another post, Thangal was depicted playing percussion, while Congress leaders Ramesh Chennithala and K C Venugopal were shown as being uneasy.

In the same post, the BJP said that over the next five years Kerala would have a Chief Minister "dancing to the tune of the League".

The posts were shared with the hashtag "CongressPoliticsOfAppeasement".

Former BJP state president K Surendran also shared Thangal's picture on Facebook and captioned it "High Command".

He also shared a video clip with the remark "63 is less than 22", referring to the 63 seats won by the Congress and the 22 seats held by the IUML.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi congratulated Satheesan and shared his picture on his Facebook page.

"I extend bright success wishes to V D Satheesan as Chief Minister of Kerala," he wrote.
