Assam couple electrocuted to death at poultry farm in Keralam

A couple from Assam died after being electrocuted at a poultry farm here on Sunday, police said.

Thrissur (Keralam) | A couple from Assam died after being electrocuted at a poultry farm here on Sunday, police said.

The deceased were identified as Shafeeq (28) and his wife Ruksana (23), both from Assam. They worked at a poultry farm in Deshamangalam.

Their two children, aged two and three, were also at the farm at the time but escaped unhurt.

The farm has around 1,000 chickens, and an electric fence had been installed around the premises to prevent animals from entering, police said.

The couple was electrocuted after coming into contact with the electric line while arriving at the farm for work, police said.

Other employees at the farm noticed the incident and disconnected the power supply.

Police said the couple died before they could be taken to hospital.

An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the incident, including whether the electric line had been installed illegally, police said.

The bodies will be handed over to the relatives after postmortem examinations, police added.
