Akhil Marar quits Twenty20, alleges differences with Sabu Jacob over seat sharing

Actor and reality show winner Akhil Marar, who contested the recent Kerala Assembly elections as an NDA candidate, quit Twenty20, alleging differences with party chairman and industrialist Sabu M Jacob

Kochi | Actor and reality show winner Akhil Marar, who contested the recent Kerala Assembly elections as an NDA candidate, on Tuesday quit Twenty20, alleging differences with party chairman and industrialist Sabu M Jacob.

Twenty20 is a coalition partner in the BJP-led NDA.

Marar, who contested the Assembly election from Thrikkakara on a Twenty20 ticket, launched a scathing attack on Jacob through various television channels soon after announcing his exit.

He accused Jacob of "failing" to honour assurances given to him over an Assembly seat before the elections, and "running Twenty20 for his personal interests".

Marar claimed that he had joined the party after being assured of the Kottarakkara Assembly seat, but the constituency was later allotted to another candidate.

He further alleged that he was subsequently promised the Thrippunithura seat, following intervention by the BJP and the RSS, but was instead fielded from Thrikkakara.

Claiming that he possessed screenshots of WhatsApp chats with Jacob regarding the seat-sharing discussions, Marar said his repeated attempts to raise the issue with the party leadership had yielded no response.

He also alleged that Jacob had become inaccessible after the elections, ignored his request to appoint him as the Kollam district president, and showed little interest in taking up people's issues or strengthening the party's organisational activities.

Marar further alleged that Jacob had not paid any attention to the Thrikkakara constituency.

Jacob has not yet responded to the allegations.
