3 Kerala police personnel suspended for allegedly consuming liquor on duty

Three CPOs were suspended for allegedly consuming liquor while on duty at the Armed Reserve Camp in Tripunithura here, police officials said

Kochi | Three CPOs were suspended for allegedly consuming liquor while on duty at the Armed Reserve Camp in Tripunithura here, police officials said on Saturday.

According to police, the incident came to light on Friday morning when senior officers, acting on a tip-off that some personnel were consuming liquor while on duty, conducted an inspection at the camp.

During the inspection, the officers found that two Civil Police Officers (CPOs) had allegedly consumed liquor, while a third officer, who was present with them, failed to report the incident to his superiors, officials said.

On seeing the senior officers, one of the policemen who had allegedly consumed liquor fled the camp.

A breath analyser test later confirmed that another officer was under the influence of alcohol, police said.

On Friday evening, the camp commandant ordered an internal inquiry into the incident and placed all three officers under suspension.

Police officials said strict instructions had earlier been issued prohibiting the consumption of liquor inside Armed Reserve camps following similar incidents in the past.
