1 dead as Chetak helicopter crashes at naval air station in Kochi

A Chetak helicopter crashed on the runway of the naval air station, INS Garuda, in Kochi on Saturday.

Kochi | A navy sailor died after a Chetak helicopter crashed on Saturday at the runway of the naval air station, INS Garuda here, Navy sources said.

The Indian Navy chopper which was on a training flight, crashed soon after the lift off, sources added.

"One Navy sailor lost his life in an accident involving a Chetak helicopter during its ground maintenance checks at Naval air base, INS Garuda in Kochi", Indian Navy said in a statement.

The navy also initiated a Board of Inquiry to investigate the cause of the accident.
