Kerala BJP leader seeks action over alleged deepfake video targeting PM Modi

Facebook account operating under the name 'Kaippadi Ansari' allegedly shared a manipulated video created using original footage from the G7 Summit.

Thiruvananthapuram | A Kerala BJP office-bearer on Monday sought immediate legal action over the alleged circulation of an AI-generated deepfake video targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming it was intended to spread misinformation and tarnish his image.

In a statement, Kerala BJP State Social Media Convener Abhijith Radhakrishnan Nair said he had submitted a complaint to the state police chief seeking a detailed investigation into the matter.

According to the complaint, a Facebook account operating under the name 'Kaippadi Ansari' allegedly shared a manipulated video created using original footage from the G7 Summit.

Nair alleged that the visuals had been altered to falsely depict world leaders insulting the PM and were accompanied by derogatory comments before being circulated on social media.

He said such content amounted to a planned cyber attack carried out under the guise of political criticism and argued that the use of deepfake technology to spread false information could undermine public trust and democratic institutions.

The complaint called for the registration of a First Information Report under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act and sought a comprehensive investigation into those behind the alleged video.

Nair urged authorities to ensure the removal of the content from social media platforms and to identify and prosecute those responsible.

He said copies of the video and other digital evidence had been submitted to the police along with the complaint and expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
