United Nations | India has held talks with the European Union on mobility and migration issues, including cooperation under the mobility framework signed earlier this year.

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh met European Union Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner in New York on Wednesday on the margins of the second International Migration Review Forum (IMRF), being organised by the UN General Assembly from May 4 to 8.

"Our discussions focused on mobility and migration matters. Also took stock of multiple meetings of the India-EU comprehensive framework on cooperation in mobility and the recently launched Legal Gateway Office in ICT Sector," Singh said in a post on X.

The India-EU mobility agreement, signed in January 2026, aims to make legal migration easier and safer for Indian professionals, researchers and students, while the European Legal Gateway Office launched in New Delhi in February serves as a one-stop centre for opportunities across the EU's 27 member states.

Singh also met Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands Bart Van Den Brink and "discussed collaboration on the issues of mutual interest." Singh, who arrived in New York on Sunday, is leading the Indian delegation for the international forum. On Thursday, he is scheduled to address a special side event highlighting India's digital innovations in the migration governance.

"As the world grapples with the complexities of modern migration, digital technology offers transformative opportunities to make the process safer, fairer, and more efficient," the Indian mission has said.
