Filming begins on Sourav Ganguly biopic ‘Dada’, Vikramaditya Motwane to direct

New Delhi | Filming has begun on "Dada", the upcoming biographical movie on Indian cricket legend Sourav Ganguly, with filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane assuming the director's chair, the makers announced on Wednesday.

Actor Rajkummar Rao will portray Ganguly in the movie, which is produced by filmmaker Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg of Luv Films.

The production banner shared a photo of clapperboard on Instagram to announce that the movie has started filming.

"Lights, Camera, Cricket! 'Dada' Filming Begins Now," wrote Luv Films.

Motwane, known for critical hits such as "Udaan", "Lootera", "Trapped" and series "Jubilee" and "Black Warrant", also shared the news on his Instagram page and posted a photo of the Sourav Ganguly stand from Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata.

"Take your seats," he captioned the image.

Rao wrote, "And it begins … The one and only #DADA."

The makers are yet to share the official plotline of the film.

Ganguly, who played for the Indian cricket team from 1992 to 2008, scored 18,575 runs in Test and ODIs, and has 38 centuries to his credit.

In an interview with PTI in July 2025, Ganguly says Rao is the right choice to portray him in the film.

"I think the right person is doing it... I'll help him with everything," said the former player, who is counted among India's most successful captains.
