New Delhi | Speaking about a data breach involving electronic files linked to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) in Tamil Nadu, Union minister Jitendra Singh on Thursday said no sensitive data has been leaked.

The minister asserted that there is no immediate need for a review because the breach had nothing to do with nuclear safety or nuclear facility.

Singh's comments came a day after the KKNPP's operator, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), said the leaked data related only to the plant's engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the common services -- the Balance of Plant (BoP) package.

"The scope of the contract includes engineering, procurement/supply, construction and commissioning of common service facilities. These facilities are of conventional nature and are typically found in thermal power plants as well as other process industries," the NPCIL said.

The contract was awarded to Reliance Infrastructure Limited in 2018 through a public-tender process.

The KKNPP comprises six units of pressurised water reactors of VVER design, established in a technical collaboration with Russia.

The first two units (KKNPP units-1 and 2) are already in operation, while units 3 and 4 are still under construction and are due to be operational by 2027.

Reports have emerged that ransomware group World Leaks has accessed more than 19,000 highly-sensitive files dating between 2016 and mid-2025.

These files, linked to the KKNPP's engineering blueprints for control, cooling and ventilation systems, list of vendors and suppliers supplying equipment, operational files on meeting records etc., have been accessed by World Leaks.

In its statement, the NPCIL said, "NPCIL reiterates that the information claimed to be available in the public domain pertains only to conventional Balance of Plant (BoP) common service facilities and does not relate to any nuclear safety or nuclear security-related systems or information."
