Residents decorate 28 ft’ ‘Pookkalam’ to welcome Onam

Residents welcome Onam with 28 ft ‘Pookkalam’: Malayali community in Bhopal decorates giant floral decoration with natural leaves, colors, and flowers.

Bhopal | The residents of Mahabali Nagar and nearby Malayali Community of Mahabali Nagar Kolar Road, Bhopal laid a giant ‘Pookkalam’ (floral decoration) on the occasion of Onam Festival on 27 August at V.D. Nair Complex, Mahabali Nagar, Kolar Road.

The organisers claimed that this is probably the biggest Pookkalam in Madhya Pradesh with a 28 feet diameter. They also said that they have been doing this for the past several years which involve several Malayalee volunteers and flowers of different colours. This time the theme of G-20 is carved in the Pookkalam to inspire the National spirit.

Hon’ble MLA Rameshwar Sharma; Prof. K.G. Suresh, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi University, Sunita Guddu Bhadoriya, President, Zone 18 and Ward Counsellor of Ward 80;  RB Pandey & Sardar Singh Patel, President & Ex-President of Netaji Housing Cooperative Society, Mahabali Nagar and other eminent people of Bhopal lighted the traditional Lamp.

Chief organiser Dr. Mani Nair said that around 300 kilos of flowers, natural leaves and colours were used to make this Pookkalam that attracted hundreds during the day.
