Indore |A potentially serious accident was narrowly averted at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport in Indore when a training aircraft from Madhya Pradesh Flying Club (MPFC) skidded off the runway and crashed to the ground. The incident occurred on Friday at 5:10 pm when the Cessna-172 aircraft, which was being used for training, landed at the wrong place without being aligned with the runway.
The trainee pilot, Kripashankar (23), attempted to take off again in a panic and the aircraft went off the runway and crashed after the balance deteriorated. Fortunately, the pilot was unharmed. The aircraft sustained damage, including to the propeller and aileron of the rear tail, and will require replacement parts.
According to Milind Mahajan, the president of the flying club, Kripashankar has been training to fly solo for some time and has only 15 hours of solo flying experience. The DGCA team has arrived at the airport to investigate the incident. The flying club has informed the DGCA of the incident and provided complete information.
This is not the first time that accidents have occurred with planes from the flying club, with a pilot having been killed in a previous accident. The airport authorities have taken necessary steps to ensure the safety of the passengers and the pilots at the airport.
