Lalwani steps in for Ger in Unesco list

Indore | Ger, the renowned procession connected with Rangpanchami here, appears set to be on Unesco’s cultural heritage list. Shankar Lalwani, MP, met Sangeet Natak Akademi president Sandhya Purecha in Delhi, and gave details about Ger.

Purecha was very keen about the event and discussed it in detail with him, he said, adding that all necessary documentation of the event would have to be done. Purecha instructed officials to take immediate action and once the documentation was completed, Ger could find in the Unesco list.

Lalwani added that Purecha said the list for 2023 had already been sent to Unesco and Ger could be included in the list for 2024. Documentation would be done jointly by the municipal corporation and the Collector's office.

UNESCO had recently recognised Durga Puja as a cultural heritage. Earlier, Ramlila, Vedpath, Navroz and Kumbhmela-Simhastha were among those that got this honour.
