Indore | The festival of Rangpanchami was celebrated here on Sunday with gaiety as lakhs thronged Rajwada to participate in the `Ger' procession. Compared to last year, a large number of people came out with families to be part of the festivities. It was over thousands of kilograms of gulal that landed on the city streets when the procession concluded.
Colours started flying early Sunday morning. People from different areas of the city along with their families and a group of youths started reached for the historic Ger which started from Tori Corner at 10 am.
More than 5 lakh people participated in the Ger procession which covered more than 3 km and continued till afternoon. In the colonies and streets of the city, people were seen smearing colour on each other as also Sarafa Bazaar and Gopal Mandir.
The Ger started after worship at the Hariram temple in Old Rajmohalla. Band, dhol tashe, 3 DJ carts and 10 tractor trolleys kept on blowing water. Saffron-coloured missiles that could fire up to 100 ft on five water tankers also joined the procession. And over 500 youths came out wearing saffron helmets giving the message to the youths to wear helmets while driving. Big saffron flags were included on all the vehicles.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava along with BJP corporators also participated in the procession of the municipal corporation. It was for the first time when the corporation's ger was taken out on Rangpanchmi.
Around five lakh people reached Rajwada and its surroundings to see the Rangpanchami celebrations on Sunday
Rang Panchami was celebrated in Baba Mahakal in Ujjain with the colours of tesu flower.
Indore | The city kept its tryst with cleanliness and Rangpanchami was another occasion for this. It was a riot of colours for five hours during the festival, including in Rajwada. Immediately after the festival, cleaners took charge, and in an hour Rajwada regained its dazzle.
As many as 550 employees of the municipal corporation entered the field with equipment, to clear gulal, bags, slippers-shoes and pieces of clothes spread on the roads. In different parts of the city, employees cleared the roads in hardly one and a half hours.
International Waste Management Company CEO Mohan Pandey said a staff of 550 employees, 15 sweeping equipment and five high pressure jets were put to use. As many as 10 garbage collection vehicles and an equal number of trolleys filled with shoes and slippers and other garbage moved out of the city, about three to four times the garbage than last year. As much as 8-10 tonnes of garbage was collected at Rajwada alone.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava had readied a plan for cleaning the city.
