Jabalpur High Court sentences two IAS officers to jail, found guilty of contempt of court

Jabalpur | Jabalpur High Court sentences two IAS officers to jail. The Court has sentenced the officers for imprisonment and fine for contempt of court.

Former Chhatarpur Collector Sheelendra Singh and the then Additional Collector, Chhatarpur Amar Bahadur Singh have been convicted by the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

As punishment, Sheelendra Singh has been sentenced to 7 days imprisonment and Rs 50,000 fine and Amar Bahadur Singh has also been sentenced to 7 days imprisonment and Rs 50,000 fine.

With this, instructions were given to send them to jail directly from the court room. Jabalpur High Court Justice G.S. Ahluwalia pronounced the verdict finding both these IAS officers guilty.

This case of sending officers of such a high rank to jail is being considered historic in itself.

The case pertains to Rachna Dwivedi,Coordinator of Chattarpur Mission of Swachh Bharat Mission who was transferred to Bada Malhara.

Against this she filed a petition in the High Court. It was said in the petition that there is no provision for transfer in contractual appointment.

On July 10, 2020, the High Court had put an interim stay on the transfer order. The petitioner was dismissed from service for not joining Bada Malhara despite the stay of the High Court. For this reason, the petitioner filed a contempt petition against the said officers.

Presently, Sheelendra Singh is on the post of Deputy Secretary in Social Justice Department in Bhopal and Amar Bahadur Singh has the command of Additional Commissioner of Jabalpur division.
