Indore | With continuous rise in number of incoming and outgoing passengers and corresponding increase in number of flights from Devi Ahilya Bai airport, the works for upgradation of facilities at the airport are being carried out. As per the requirements, the new ATC i.e. Air Traffic Control Tower, Fire Station, Technical and Communication Building will be constructed at Indore Airport at a cost of about Rs 80 crore. MP Shankar Lalwni here on Sunday laid the foundation stone for these works at a groundbreaking ceremony.
While laying the foundation stone, Lalwani said that the number of passengers from Indore airport has been continuously increasing. In such a situation, there is a need for infrastructure at the airport according to the needs of the modern future. Today, `Bhumi Pujan' has been performed for the new ATC tower, technical and communication building and new fire station which will work on state-of-the-art technology. It is being built keeping in mind the coming years of Indore airport.
He said that the existing ATC tower of the airport has become very old, so it was necessary to upgrade it. The new ATC will be equipped with state-of-the-art radar and technology. At present, 12 flights can land and take off from the airport every hour, while after construction of the new ATC tower the capacity will more than double the capacity. Also, the new ATC can be upgraded over time. It is being prepared keeping in view the needs of the airport for many years to come, the MP said.
At present, with the existing technical facilities , the ATC at Indore airport can control any aircraft from a distance of 100 kms. However, after construction of the new ATC, the aircraft can be controlled even if it is 150 kilometers away. At present, the distance between the aircraft under the control of Indore airport is 10 miles, but after the upgradation, it can be reduced to 5 miles, which will increase the aircraft handling capacity, informed Lalwani adding that the construction of domestic and perishable cargo is also underway at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crores. He further informed that construction of two more aero bridges at the airport is also underway. With this, city airport will have five aero bridges, he added
