Indore | Nearly 30 passengers on board a private bus had a narrow escape after the vehicle caught fire following a tyre burst in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district on Thursday, police said.

The passengers were evacuated in time, they said.

The bus was travelling from Rewa to Indore at the time of the accident, Kshipra police station in-charge Kailash Solanki told PTI.

One of the tyres of the bus burst, resulting in a fire. The fire did not spread rapidly immediately after the tyre burst, he said.

"About 30 passengers on board the bus were evacuated safely in time. No one was injured in the incident," Solanki said.

However, the flames rose quickly after the passengers were evacuated and their luggage removed from the vehicle.

The official said that the fire has been brought under control and traffic has been restored on the road.

Videos of the incident have surfaced on social media. They show the bus engulfed in flames and thick black smoke rising from the vehicle.
