Bhopal | Bhopal Nair Samaj celebrated Onam with great enthusiasm, joy and traditional fervour on Sunday, 6 September 2026, at Mannam Bhawan, Sree Mannam Khajurikalan Road, Khajurikalan, Piplani, Bhopal.
The celebrations commenced at 10.00 a.m. with the traditional lighting of the lamp and prayer, setting a festive and auspicious tone for the occasion.
Prof. Amitabh Saxena, Executive Director, Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, AG Vallabhan, President, Bhopal Nair Samaj, said that Onam is a festival that brings together Malayalees across the world, wherever they may live. He said, “Onam is a festival where every home welcomes guests and every feast has a place for everyone,” reflecting the spirit of unity, togetherness and inclusiveness associated with the festival.
Prof. Amitabh Saxena, in his address, highlighted the importance of preserving language and cultural heritage. He observed that language serves as an important connecting cord between generations, and if this link is broken, it can adversely affect the continuity of the nation’s rich cultural traditions and values.
The celebrations also recalled the legendary reign of King Mahabali, who is remembered in Kerala as an ideal ruler whose reign symbolised compassion, prosperity, equality and happiness—a time when every individual felt cared for, respected and valued.
A colourful cultural programme followed, beginning with the graceful and traditional Thiruvathirakkali, followed by group dances and songs that showcased the vibrant cultural heritage and rich traditions of Kerala.
The highlight of the celebrations was the grand traditional Onasadya, which offered guests an authentic and delightful taste of Kerala’s rich culinary heritage. The sumptuous feast added further flavour, warmth and festive spirit to the memorable Onam celebrations.
The event brought together members of the Bhopal Nair Samaj, their families and guests, making it a joyous celebration of Kerala’s culture, traditions, unity and the enduring spirit of Onam.
