Arjun Singh’s statue unveiled after long wait

Bhopal | The long awaited unveiling of the statue of senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Arjun Singh which was mired in controversy after it was shifted from Major Nanke Petro pump area was finally done at Vyapam square in a function attended by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh on Tuesday.

CM Shivraj unveiled the statue and narrated some stories related to his life. He said- that self. Arjun Singh was the Chanakya of politics. He had come for the programme on the death anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, whereas it was a BJP programme. Nowadays even going to such forums is an act which needs courage.

The unveiling of the statue of former CM Arjun Singh was postponed for two years. BJP MLA Narayan Tripathi had also given an ultimatum to the government regarding this. Tripathi had announced the unveiling of this statue on 4 March. Meanwhile, the date of March 7 was fixed by the government. After this, the Chief Minister himself reached the unveiling programme. He performed Kanya Pujan of girls on the stage and garlanded them. Digvijay Singh also worshiped and gave Dakshina to the girls.

In the programme, Arjun Singh's daughter Veena Singh demanded the Chief Minister to register the achievement of Bharat Bhavan in her father's name. He also demanded that a photo gallery in the corridor be named after him. Arjun Singh's son and former Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh Rahul Bhaiya were present in the programme.
