All accounts, website taken down: CJP founder alleges crackdown as movement claims 10 lakh sign-ups

New Delhi | Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday alleged a sweeping crackdown on the satirical digital movement, claiming that all its social-media accounts as well its website have been taken down or compromised, leaving the group without access to any of its official platforms.

Dipke said the outfit has lost access to its Instagram accounts, its X handle has been withheld in India, its backup account was briefly taken down and its website -- cockroachjantaparty.org -- has also been taken down.

"Please note that we currently do not have access to any of our platforms. Any post made after this should not be considered an official statement from the Cockroach Janta Party," Dipke said in a post on X.

Listing what he described as coordinated action against the movement, Dipke wrote, "Crackdown on Cockroach Janta Party. Instagram page hacked. My personal Instagram hacked. Twitter account withheld. Back up account also taken down."

The claims came two days after the CJP's original X handle was withheld in India, prompting Dipke to create a new account. On Friday, he also alleged receiving death threats and shared screenshots of purported threat messages online.

The outfit had launched a campaign seeking Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over alleged systemic failures in the education sector and the NEET-UG 2026 paper "leak".

Linking the action against the platform to the campaign, Dipke said, "Action should have been taken against the Education Minister for the paper leak. For the student who lost his life due to the government's failure. But in New India, action is being taken against the Cockroach Janta Party for demanding accountability."

In fresh posts shared from the backup X handle -- "Cockroach is Back" -- the group claimed that its movement continues to grow despite the alleged crackdown.

"We have achieved 1 million registered cockroaches on our website in less than a week! The movement keeps getting bigger despite all the crackdown!" the CJP said.

The group claimed that before its website was taken down, "10 lakh cockroaches had signed up on our website as members" and "6 lakh cockroaches had signed a petition to demand the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan".

"The government has taken down our iconic website," the post said, asking, "Why is the government so scared of cockroaches?"

Describing the campaign as youth-driven dissent, the group said, "Our only crime is we were demanding a better future for ourselves."

An image shared with the post carried the message: "They hacked all accounts, they couldn't hack the movement."

The handle also asserted that the campaign would continue despite losing access to its platforms.

"You can hack and withhold the accounts but you cannot hack this movement," it said.

"We are not going to stop and we will keep raising our voice against this autocracy. Every attack makes cockroaches stronger," it added.

Signalling plans to rebuild its online presence, the group said, "We're working on a new home right now. Cockroaches never die."

The account also distanced itself from any protest call, urging supporters to remain peaceful.

The Cockroach Janta Party emerged online last week and rapidly gained traction through memes and political commentary around unemployment, examination paper leaks and education-related issues.

CJI urges students to remain humble, retain ethical values in evolving digital era

Bathinda | Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday emphasised the importance of constitutional values, ethical conduct, integrity, and compassion in today's rapidly evolving technological world.

In his virtual address during the 11th convocation of the Central University of Punjab, CJI Kant encouraged graduates to uphold kindness, empathy, and human values while contributing meaningfully towards building an inclusive and progressive society.

While acknowledging the opportunities created by digital advancement, he also cautioned against emerging ethical challenges in the rapidly evolving digital era.

Urging students to remain humble and socially responsible, he stated that a degree marks the beginning of greater responsibilities towards society and the nation.

During the event, the CJI also virtually inaugurated the university library building, constructed over a built-up area of 31,410 sq ft at an estimated cost of Rs 14.40 crore, further strengthening the university's academic and research infrastructure.

IIT Ropar Director Rajeev Ahuja appreciated the steady progress of Central University of Punjab, praised its strong research culture and encouraged students to embrace innovation, research, and lifelong learning in today's rapidly evolving technological world.

Advising students to avoid shortcuts in life, he encouraged them to work hard, enhance their knowledge, become innovators and job creators, and contribute towards the vision of 'Viksit Bharat' through dedication and teamwork.

During the ceremony, the CU of Punjab conferred 981 postgraduate degrees and 92 PhD degrees upon students from across India and abroad. The university also honoured 44 meritorious students with gold medals for their outstanding academic performance.

Women students constituted 52.1 per cent of the postgraduate degree recipients and 61.36 per cent of the gold medal awardees.

Closing 'X' account of CJP shows Centre's 'intolerance', 'fear' towards democratic protests: Pinarayi Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram | Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said the Centre's alleged act of closing the 'X' account of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) was a sign of "intolerance" and "fear" towards democratic protests.

Vijayan, in a statement, also claimed that it shows that the central government was worried that the CJP, a satirical social media outfit, will grow into a political protest movement.

"Why is the BJP scared of it," he asked.

The Marxist veteran also pointed out that the CJP has gained public attention and acceptance much faster than the BJP's official propaganda mechanisms.

He contended that the youth, who are facing unemployment and neglect, have been attracted to movement due to their deep unhappiness with the current socio-political situation.

Vijayan said that the movement should not be seen as a response to the epithet "cockroaches".

"The fervor of a strong political response against a system full of unemployment, inequality and exploitation can be seen in it. The fear that this sentiment will spread further is leading the central government to take steps to suppress democratic voices," he claimed.

He further said that disagreements with a political idea or form of protest were natural, but misusing laws and administrative procedures to suppress a youth protest, which is exercising the freedom of expression and association guaranteed by the Constitution, is against the spirit of democratic India and constitutional values.

"This action of the central government is strongly condemned. I request all forces that believe in democracy and freedom of expression to strongly protest against this," he said in the statement.

While Vijayan has condemned the Centre's action against the CJP, the BJP has termed it as cross-border "influence operation" aimed at destabilising India and targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his administration.

At the same time, the CJP has drawn support from several young political leaders in Kerala belonging to the ruling Congress, its ally the IUML, and the opposition CPI(M).

Newly elected MLAs Abin Varkey (Congress), P K Navas and T P Ashrafali (IUML), and V K Sanoj CPI(M) had on Friday expressed support for the CJP.

The satirical movement has also received backing from student leaders, with Students' Federation of India (SFI) state president M Sivaprasad speaking in its favour.

The 'X' account of Cockroach Janata Party, a satirical digital outfit that came up last week and took social media by storm, was withheld in India on Thursday. Soon after, came another handle – 'Cockroach is Back' with the tagline 'Cockroaches Don't Die'.
