Thane | A coach of a Superfast Express heading from Ernakulam to Pune was detached from the train at Panvel railway station in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday morning after the detection of a mechanical defect, officials said.

Railway authorities subsequently accommodated affected passengers in other coaches, they said.

Panvel station is located around 100 km from Pune junction.

As the Ernakulam-Pune Superfast Express (train no. 22149) arrived at Panvel station at around 6.30 am, "a broken control arm was detected in the B1 coach, resulting in a C&W (carriage and wagon) failure," the Central Railway said in a release.

As a precautionary measure, railway authorities decided to detach the affected coach from the train to ensure passenger safety, railway officials said.

Passengers travelling in the B1 coach were shifted to other coaches before the train resumed its onward journey, they said.
