Veteran journalist K B Ganapathy passes away at 85

Veteran journalist and founder-editor of Star of Mysore and Mysuru Mithra, K B Ganapathy, passed away at a private hospital here on Sunday. He was 85.

Sources close to the family said he died of a heart attack. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condoled Ganapathy’s death, describing him as a friend and a towering figure in journalism.

"I’m deeply saddened by the passing of my friend, senior journalist K B Ganapathy, from my hometown. His demise has impoverished the field of journalism in our state," he said in a post on 'X.

Siddaramaiah praised Ganapathy’s five-decade-long career, noting his objective and professional writing.

"Through Star of Mysore, he built a vast readership in the cultural city of Mysuru. He also served as the founding editor of the daily Mysuru Mithra," he said, adding that Ganapathy’s legacy should serve as an inspiration for young journalists.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, also posting on 'X', said, "The Star of Mysore has disappeared."

Remembering Ganapathy as a man of immense knowledge, he added, "Every word from his pen had the power to deeply impact society. He created a devoted readership not just in Mysuru but across India and abroad."

Leader of Opposition R Ashoka highlighted Ganapathy’s nearly 50-year contribution to journalism through his reporting and columns, and also noted his achievements as a novelist.

BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B L Santosh said, "Saddened by the demise of veteran journalist K B Ganapathy. A thorough gentleman and a man of quality journalism, he launched Mysuru Mithra and Star of Mysore decades ago. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti."
