Andhra CM, Deputy CM condole death of actress Sowcar Janaki

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan and YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday mourned the death of veteran actress Sowcar Janaki.

The CM said Janaki’s passing left him "shocked".

“The sudden passing of veteran actress and singer Sowkar Janaki (94) has left me deeply shocked. Having acted in over 400 films and received numerous awards and accolades, Sowkar Janaki may have left us physically, but through the characters she portrayed, she will remain immortal in our hearts forever,” said Naidu in a post on X.

"I pray that the Almighty grants peace to her soul. I extend my deepest condolences to her family members," he added.

Similarly, actor-politician Kalyan expressed sorrow over Janaki’s death and prayed for the peace of her soul, said an official press release.

He recalled that Janaki had acted in Telugu, Kannada and Tamil movies, essaying diverse roles. The Jana Sena founder conveyed his sympathy to Janaki’s bereaved family.

Former CM and YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy described Janaki's demise as an "irreparable loss" to the Telugu film industry.

“In a remarkable career spanning more than seven decades, Sowcar (Sankaramanchi) Janaki acted in over 400 films across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, leaving an indelible impression on generations of cinema lovers,” said Jagan in a YSRCP press release.

He recalled that Janaki had played leading roles opposite legendary actors like NT Rama Rao, A Nageswara Rao, MG Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganesan

He noted that she won widespread admiration for her natural performances in diverse roles as a mother, grandmother and elderly matriarch.
