Axis Bank launches ‘Pink Capital’ report on queer financial lives

A qualitative study spotlighting the financial ecosystem of India’s LGBTQIA+ community

Mumbai| Axis Bank has launched ‘Pink Capital: The Spectrum of Queer Money’, a qualitative study spotlighting the financial ecosystem of India’s LGBTQIA+ community.

The report shows queer consumers prioritize systemic access and equality (34.2%), followed by healthcare and safety (20%), financial stability (18.6%), social recognition (17.3%), and lifestyle (10%). Mental health services and elder care emerged as critical needs.

While younger respondents sought student loans, scholarships, and queer-focused savings products, older members highlighted the need for community housing and queer-affirming retirement homes.

Axis Bank said the initiative builds on its #ComeAsYouAre charter, introduced in 2021, which enabled joint accounts for same-sex partners, the use of the honorific Mx, and other inclusive policies.

“By making Pink Capital visible, we are building the future of inclusive finance in India,” said Rajkamal Vempati, Group Executive & Head of HR at Axis Bank.

The launch coincided with the 7th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Section 377 verdict and was unveiled during Axis Bank’s Sparsh Week celebrations.
